Heaters Win Holding Memorial Tournament

With a 9-0 victory in Sunday's Holding Memorial Tournament championship game at Bullitt Park in Big Stone Gap, Virginia, the Heaters Baseball Club claimed their second consecutive tournament championship in as many weeks.  The tournament concluded the same way it began: with the Heaters defeating the Orange squad from Big Stone Gap.

The Heaters offense came alive in the title contest, scoring five runs in the first inning, three in the second inning, and a run in the third inning.  The game was called after three complete innings of play due to a 7-run mercy rule that was in effect.

Heaters pitching dominated the tournament by allowing only three total hits in the four games played.  Three Heaters pitchers combined for the shutout in the championship game and five different pitchers combined for the tournament shutout.  Heaters pitching combined to throw 17 scoreless innings in the tournament and have combined to throw 24 consecutive scoreless innings dating back to individual matchups prior to the tournament.  The Heaters outscored their opponents by a score of 23-0 in the tournament.

The Heaters Baseball Club will conclude its season this week by traveling to Cincinnati, Ohio to compete in the Queen City Invitational.  The Heaters will be the only representative from the state of Virginia in the tournament.  The QCI 8-under tournament will have teams represented from Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Virginia, and Michigan.
